Edulux Driver is the mobile app drivers and attendants use to run school transportation routes for the transportation company they work for (the operator). It is part of the Edulux platform, operated by Seung Hwan Lee in the United States ("we"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, and who can see it.
You can use the app only if an operator has added you as a driver or attendant. The operator decides how the information about its own staff and routes is used. We store and process that information to provide the service to them.
What we collect
- Account details: your name and mobile phone number, which you use to sign in with a one-time code sent by text message.
- Location, only during a route: your device's precise location while a trip is in progress, including when the app is in the background or the screen is off, so the operator can see where the vehicle is and record arrivals at stops. Location sharing stops when the trip ends; the app does not track you outside a trip.
- Registration and compliance details: what you provide when you register or the operator requests it: your date of birth, home address, email address (optional), and an emergency contact's name and phone number; your driver's license (photos of the front and back, and the details read from its barcode: name, date of birth, license number, issuing state, expiry, and whether it carries commercial, passenger or school bus endorsements); a photo of your face; and documents you upload (for example certifications or background-check paperwork).
- Trip records: the routes you run, when you started and ended them, arrivals at stops, what you record for each student (picked up, dropped off, not riding, no-show, or released to someone), and any incident you report, including photos you attach.
- Driving events, only during a route (Android): the app uses your phone's motion sensors to detect harsh braking, harsh acceleration and sharp turns while a trip is in progress, and records each event's type, severity, time and location so the operator can review driving safety. Nothing is measured outside a trip.
- Device and app information: a device identifier used to keep you signed in on your phone, a push-notification token, your phone's platform (Android or iOS), your battery level sent with location updates during a trip (Android), and technical logs the servers keep when something goes wrong.
The app also shows you information the operator provides about the students on your routes (names, stops and pickup details) so you can do the job. We do not collect information from students through the app.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To run routes: showing your day's trips, sharing the vehicle's location with the operator's dispatch during a trip, and recording stops and student outcomes.
- To support the operator's records: driver compliance (including checking that your license matches your registration), payroll, driving safety, and service reports for the schools or districts it serves.
- To send you notifications about your routes, such as changes, reminders, or a trip you left running.
- To keep the service working and secure, and to fix problems.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or track you across other apps or websites.
Who can see it
- The operator you work for: its dispatchers and administrators see your profile, registration documents, live location during trips, trip records and driving events. Records such as trip times and stops served may appear in service reports the operator gives the schools or districts it transports for.
- Service providers that run the platform for us: DigitalOcean (hosting and storage), Cloudflare (network delivery and security), Twilio (sign-in text messages), Google Firebase (push notifications), Postmark (email), and Sentry (error reports). On Android, the address search while you register uses Google Places, which receives the text you type. They process information only to provide their service.
- When the law requires it: we may disclose information to comply with a legal obligation or a valid request from authorities, or to protect someone's safety.
License barcode reading, text recognition and document scanning run on your phone (Google ML Kit); the camera images are not sent to Google.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you are on an operator's staff and the operator uses Edulux. Trip and compliance records may be kept longer when the operator needs them for its contracts or legal record-keeping. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
Your choices and rights
- Location: you can turn off location permission in your phone's settings at any time. The app cannot run a route without it.
- Notifications: you can turn them off in your phone's settings.
- Access, correction and deletion: you can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Email contact@edulux.org from the phone number or name on your account, or ask your operator. We will respond within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your sign-in, profile and documents. Trip records the operator must keep may be retained without your contact details.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Sign-in codes are stored only as one-way hashes, access inside the platform is limited to each operator's own data, and documents are stored on servers we control. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
The app is for adult drivers and attendants and is not directed to children. It does not collect information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, we will also let you know through the app or your operator.
